When Dr. Karina Langle was looking for a place to open her practice, she had a feeling that Mt. Greenwood would be perfect, and given the response of local families to the opening of Lunettes Family Eyecare and Optical Boutique, she was right.
A 16-year resident of Mt. Greenwood with her husband, Edward, and two children, Dr. Langle opened Lunettes Family Eyecare at 3402 W. 111th St., in January 2017.
She is dedicated to developing genuine connections with her patients in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mt. Greenwood while providing them with the highest quality and personalized attention they deserve in a comfortable, neighborhood setting.
Dr. Langle is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and she graduated summa cum laude from St. Xavier University in 2002 where she earned her bachelor’s of science degree. She earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry where she graduated cum laude in 2007.
Dr. Langle’s clinical experience includes providing care for patients exhibiting ocular disease including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy; specialized contact lens fittings for both post-operative patients and those exhibiting corneal dystrophies or anterior segment pathologies; and pediatric exams.
She is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry. Because she believes learning is a lifelong process, she became a Fellow of the elite American Academy of Optometry in 2011 and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry in 2014.
Since 2015, Langle has enjoyed educating future optometrists by enhancing their clinical skills by being a clinical instructor at the Illinois College of Optometry.
The mission of Lunettes Family Eyecare and Optical Boutique is to provide the highest quality comprehensive optometric care; the latest technology in optical vision correction, including contact lenses; and education for patients on the importance of comprehensive vision care and its relationship to overall health.
The American Optometric Association recommends yearly comprehensive eye exams. Dr. Langle starts by checking how well the patient can see through current glasses or contacts, and then performs preliminary tests, followed by checking the patient’s vision prescription. Dr. Langle then checks the health of the front of the eyes followed by dilation to check the eye’s internal health.
However, a thorough evaluation involves more than checking a prescription. Treatable conditions such as ocular allergies and dry eye can be detected, and they can have a profound effect on vision. These conditions include cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration. Other ocular findings may suggest diabetes, glaucoma or autoimmune disease.
Dr. Langle recommends pediatric eye exams because many undiagnosed ocular conditions can affect how children see and their ability to learn. A comprehensive eye exam gives kids the opportunity to succeed academically and socially.
Lunettes carries a wide selection of frames to suit any taste. Many of its frames come from family-owned businesses where quality and craftsmanship are paramount.
At Lunettes, the staff takes pride in not only the quality of the service they provide patients, but also the quality of their materials. By using high-quality, digitally surfaced lenses, Lunettes’ eyeglasses provide cleaner, crisper vision than that of conventional technology.
On staff with Dr. Langle is Leeann Schlesser, who received her certification through the American Board of Opticianry in 2014. She is a member of the Opticians Association of Illinois and the Opticians Association of America. To maintain this certification and remain informed on the latest technology in the field, Leeann attends yearly education classes.
Leeann has become well versed on working with multiple insurance benefit plans, and she strives to maximize benefits for each patient.
