St. Ignatius boys golf team wins state title

Playing at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal on Oct. 8-9, the St. Ignatius boys golf team shot a two-day score of 585 to win the Class 2A state championship, defeating Benton (594) and Wheaton Academy (603) for the title. It was the first state championship in program history. The Wolfpack won its sectional last season and would have advanced to state, but no state meet was held in 2020. In winning the 2021 state title, juniors Ian Love (68 second round, 141 overall) finished sixth, and Liam Nelson (70 second round, 144) finished in a tie for seventh to lead the way. Also scoring for St. Ignatius were sophomore Jacob Gupta (147 overall, 74 second round) and junior Quinn Ross (156 overall, 76 second round). Senior Will Sidrys (157 overall, 80 second round) and sophomore Charlie Krasnewich (160 overall, 82 second round) were also members of the Wolfpack lineup. (photo courtesy of Erik Eastman)
